Verse 6 - Uber Music

It's good to think more deeply about the mercies of God in times of crisis. To help guide us in this effort, we'll consider Paul David Tripp's collection of meditations from Psalm 27 called "A Shelter in the Time of Storm." You can get your own copy on Amazon here.

I will sing and make melody to the Lord.

Psalm 27:6

This meditation is also a poem in which Tripp contrasts the music of this fallen world to the music that is playing in the heavenlies. When we are converted, God places this new song on our lips and is always inviting us to join in the chorus, no matter what is happening around us.

I listen to, sing (badly), and play (badly) a lot of music. I find music comforting. I find that it lifts my spirit. Being lifted by a tune is a nice, gracious, gift from God. Music is a gift from him for our enjoyment.

But we can (and should) be lifted by more than just tunes - the song put on our tongues is one of hope and praise. The truths it proclaims give life, freedom, peace, and hope - all reasons to sing it even more.

Questions to Consider

The questions are Tripp's. I included my answers in case they're helpful to read.

1. What circumstances of life have silenced your song of celebration and worship?

- Overwhelm. Sometimes there's just so much going on, so much to think about, so much unknown that I allow these feelings to drown out the song God's given me.

2. Write your own song of grace; what lines of praise will you pen?

- This will be a good project for later today.
