Verse 14 - Rest

It's good to think more deeply about the mercies of God in times of crisis. To help guide us in this effort, we'll consider Paul David Tripp's collection of meditations from Psalm 27 called "A Shelter in the Time of Storm." You can get your own copy on Amazon here.

...To gaze upon the beauty of the LORD
and to inquire in his temple.

Psalm 27:4

Tripp concludes the book (and we conclude our study!) with a poem that is a meditation on rest. "How are you?" "Tired." How common do you hear or say something to that effect? We're weary, worn-out, travelers much of the time. So it goes in a fallen world. And yet, look around: there are many, many things that should facilitate our ability to rest.

...His grace strengthens
His presence comforts
His promises assure
His power activates
His rule guarantees...

What? "...that someday rest, real rest, pure rest." We are on a journey toward full and final rest. We can find rest now in the comfort and hope of waiting for that rest.

Until that day, with hearts that are strong and hope that is undimmed and joy that embraces the future, we wait for the Lord.

Questions to Consider

The questions are Tripp's. I included my answers in case they're helpful to read.

1. What things in life tend to interrupt your rest in the Lord?

- Fear that things are going awry. Seeing the need for my own plans to change or be abandoned to his.

2. What present graces is God calling you to celebrate as you wait for that final rest?

- Grace and patience from him on every front. Blessings on many.
